NZFW 2013 - WALK THE LINE

We were invited again this year to judge at the Walk The Line Young Designers Fashion Show at the recent New Zealand Fashion Week. It is an annual event organised by YMCA for budding teenage fashion designers. All the entrants put so much effort into their designs we really wished there were more prizes to go around. Click through to see the highly commended designs, category winners and the overall winner.

NZFW 2013 - A.O.K. JIMMY D

Jimmy D concluded the A.O.K. show with a dark collection entitled Gloom Generation: Reloaded. In their signature style, the range was heavy on black, drapey looks with pops of yellow appearing unexpectedly. A dark sense of humour came through in the memorable doughnut imagery on some of the looks. We loved the oversized, pocketed black shirt that also appeared in white. The rad pieces in this collection are available now at Children Of Vision.

NZFW 2013 - A.O.K. HAILWOOD

Hailwood showed their Summer 13/14 collection after Lela Jacobs at the A.O.K. show. The beautifully feminine range, available now, featured elegant summer dresses as well as more tailored pieces, all in sumptuous fabrics. A couple of luxe bomber jackets in a metallic geometric pattern added sophisticated street appeal to the collection.

NZFW 2013 - A.O.K. LELA JACOBS

Lela Jacobs followed Maaike at the A.O.K. show last Saturday with one of the most beautiful collections at NZFW. The monochromatic range entitled Yugen featured looks in black, white and a stunning grey digital print that reminded us of marble rock. We loved the dramatic collection for its androgyny, interesting silhouettes and beautiful fabrics. The looks in our photos are available now at The Keep.

NZFW 2013 - A.O.K. MAAIKE

The A.O.K. (All On K' Rd) fashion show that took place during New Zealand Fashion Weekend last Saturday was a group showing put on by four designers, all of whom are based on Karangahape Road. We loved the in-season collections so much that we have decided to feature the works of each of these designers. Maaike opened the show with their range entitled Don't Feed The Plants, featuring dark, layered looks that were beautifully detailed. Two striking black and white prints stood out for us. One was a bleeding flowers print and the other a bold zigzag design. If you like what you see after the jump, you can get the looks in store now at Maaike + Co.

NZFW 2013 - SALASAI

Salasai's NZFW showing of their latest collection took place off-site on Thursday. We liked that it took the format of part catwalk show and part presentation. Sports luxe was the theme that ran through this collection with refined streetwear being enhanced with accessories like statement necklaces and delicate high heels. Plaid and a beautiful flora and fauna print featured in this very wearable range. See our photos of the show after the jump.

NZFW 2013 - UNDERGROUND

Underground brought together ten designers with ten photographers in an impressive installation that transformed a carpark below the Sofitel into an exhibition space divided by shimmering sheets of silver. Each designer created their own installation. Click through to see what we saw.

NZFW 2013 - STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB

Stolen Girlfriends Club showed at NZFW again in an off-site carpark, a venue perfectly suited to the aesthetic of this latest collection, 'Dirty Magic'. The range was heavy on the goth punk references with tartan, mohawks, safety pins, lip piercings and black velvet featuring strongly. A black paisley-emblazoned sheer fabric was used for several looks as well as a striking monochromatic zigzag pattern we loved. Check out what we liked and see the final walk-through after the jump.

NZFW 2013 - NYNE

NYNE showed at New Zealand Fashion Week for the second time this year with a collection entitled 'Nomadic'. This collection showcased a layered aesthetic with black, white and red heavily featured. Myra Lloyd (who earlier this year designed us some awesome bespoke hats), created the statement wide-brimmed felt hats featured here. Click through to check out the collection.

NZFW 2013 - LELA JACOBS

Lela Jacobs presented her new collection, entitled 'de' at her debut New Zealand Fashion Week show yesterday. One of the highlights of day one, it was a beautiful and theatrical presentation with models slowly walking to live music provided by Tzar Behemoth. Predominantly black, the collection focused on rich textures and layering, with artful styling creating a truly moving experience as a whole. Check out more of what we saw after the jump.

NZFW 2013 - COOP BY TRELISE COOPER

We attended the Coop by Trelise Cooper show yesterday, New Zealand Fashion Week 2013. As described by the label itself, the Coop girl for next season "wears silk with sneakers, orders oysters for breakfast, walks in the rain, and knows last night's blow dry looks even better in the morning". The show was captivating and had a great sense of humour with rubbery, glossy and fluffy fabrics in the mix in an eye-popping array of bright colours. This collection will definitely brighten up a dreary Winter's Day.

NZFW 2013 - TWENTY-SEVEN NAMES

Twenty-Seven Names opened New Zealand Fashion Week 2013 with their winter 2014 range. We felt the collection again consisted of quintessential kiwi street looks the brand is famous for. We found the clothes very wearable, youthful and super cute with the tiny heart prints, pleats and shorter hemlines. Pretty patent loafers, bowler hats and socks with a lovable bowler-hat-with-legs motif completed several looks nicely. Click through to see our favourite looks from the show and check out the final walk-through video at the end.

The New Zealand Fashion Week model casting this year, took place at BMW Auckland in Mt Wellington. The venue which overlooked the motorway was set to stop traffic as onlookers peered into the glass building while the models strutted their stuff. Models from all over the country walked the makeshift catwalk while designers chose their favourites that would go on to showcase their creations at New Zealand Fashion Week, just two short weeks away.
